From polio drops to period talks, KL University-NSS takes preventive healthcare to the grassroots

KL University's sustained commitment to community wellbeing ensured through early intervention, awareness-building, and direct engagement at the grassroots.

Strengthening its role as one of the top universities in South India, KL University continues to translate education into social impact through a series of community health outreach initiatives led by KL University-National Service Scheme (NSS), in association with the Centre for Extension Activities (CEA) and academic departments.

As part of the national polio eradication mission, NSS volunteers from the CSIT department conducted an intensive door-to-door awareness campaign in Nutakki village, Mangalagiri mandal. The team sensitized parents on the consequences of missed vaccinations and the lifelong disability caused by polio, while reinforcing the importance of completing the full immunization schedule from birth through early childhood. Volunteers also addressed vaccine-related concerns, emphasizing safety and effectiveness.

The outreach expanded to Pedapalem village, where CEA, in collaboration with the CSE department, organized the Swasthya (Health and Fitness) program at the MPP School. School students were introduced to essential principles of healthy living, including physical activity, balanced nutrition, hygiene, and responsible daily habits. CEA volunteers further engaged with local residents to promote cleanliness and preventive healthcare practices.

Focusing on adolescent health, CEA conducted the Bala Vikasam & Menstrual Hygiene awareness program at Vijetha High School, Pedavadlapudi village. The sessions addressed physical development and menstrual hygiene with sensitivity and clarity, aiming to dispel myths and encourage informed, healthy practices among students.

Collectively, all these initiatives reflect KL University's sustained commitment to community wellbeing ensured through early intervention, awareness-building, and direct engagement at the grassroots. By addressing preventive healthcare across age groups, the university continues to contribute meaningfully toward building a healthier and more informed society.
